13 July 2009 - screaming turtles

Another New Zealand delicacy that we found, but alas didn’t get a chance to try.

12 July 2009 - Putangitangi Tadorna Variegata

Seemed everywhere we went these ducks were following us, there were in the park in Christchurch on our day trip. Then along the road to Mt Cook, and then when we checked into our room at Mt Cook, there they were again, but this time trying to get in. Then we saw then at the airport in Christchurch near the runway, I'm sure they were there to say Bye.

Paradise Duck's aka Putangitangi Tandorna Variegata.

11 July 2009 - food

In New Zealand we came across the fantastic bakery chain called Couplands, they were like little supermarkets of baked goods. Here are some shots of the one in Timaru.

10 July 2009 - yams

I have no idea how you cook them, but the orange ones were pretty. Yams in the Christchurch New World supermarket.

9 July 2009 - Lake Pukaki, NZ

On our drive from Aoraki/Mt Cook back to Christchurch we stopped off at Lake Pukaki (not Lake Tekapo as I first thought), where it was cold! Nice but cold.

8 July 2009 - Australia vs: New Zealand

Whilst people on both sides of the ditch tend to rib each other about our places of residence there are a number of things that are the same, and a number of things that are different enough to make me think - huh, why cant we do that back home.

Money - I've said it before and will again. I love the idea that NZ had about redesigning their coins, I hate the size of the Aussie 50c & 20c pieces, and the 5c - just get rid of the silly little thing. The notes took me a little while longer to get used to, I think mostly because the notes are polymer and a similar size to the Aussie ones, different colours.

7 July 2009 - Stubbies and L&P

Having had L&P on my last NZ holiday, i was pleased to see it still in the shops, as for the stubbies - way to many men in Christchurch wear them in the freezing cold.
